Itinerant Services Instructor - ARIZONA

  • Master Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation Teaching, Rehabilitation Services, or other blindness related field
  • ACVREP or NOMC Certifications
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in blindness or visual impairment (can be concurrent with education) or formal education in the field of blindness, or previously under SAAVI internship
  • Ability to read and write uncontracted and contracted braille code
  • Experience and skills to perform case management
  • Thorough understanding of adaptive equipment
  • Experience advocating for individuals
  • Excellent organizational and program development skills
  • Excellent public speaking and written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in writing curriculum or program proposals
  • Highly energetic, dynamic and self-directed
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and with a team utilizing problem solving, critical thinking skills
  • Strong teamwork and ability to incorporate macro and micro systems simultaneously



  • Provide rehabilitation teaching and/or orientation and mobility training in order to attain a higher level of independence in life, work and the community.
  • Conduct comprehensive Adaptive Sills Assessments with all clients, and after careful analysis make formal recommendations for aids and appliances, modifications to the home environment, training needs and other services
  • Provide blindness skills training, developing individualized training curricula and establishing clear and measurable goals and objectives for each client
  • Continually monitor and document client progress and assess effectiveness of training, making adjustments to the training plan as necessary, communicate client needs to program supervisors and provide ongoing support and guidance to build self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Schedules and instructional needs are identified by the department and set by the Tucson Services Manager and program coordinator.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings as scheduled to coordinate consumer needs with the team in order to discuss and share new ideas, techniques and professional developments
  • Provide input toward the development of quality service standards effecting policy, procedures and best practices
  • Evaluate new or upgraded aids, appliances, and techniques to determine appropriateness and use of customer, and identify new resources, tools and devices that may assist clients in increasing their independence and employability
  • Stay current with developments in the O&M/RT profession
  • Maintain accurate records of all work completed, documentation must be completed electronically in the state mandated electronic system
  • Conduct community workshops and community and home based training

Salary: $38,000 to $43,000 - DOE
